"Do not sadden the Holy Spirit of GOD, who you were marked with. HE will be your distinctive mark on the day of salvation. Do away with all quarreling, rage, anger, insults and every kind of malice: be good and understanding, forgiving one another, as GOD forgave you, in CHRIST.
As most beloved children of GOD, strive to imitate HIM. Follow the way of love, the example of CHRIST, who loved you. HE gave HIMSELF up for us, and became the offering and sacrificial victim, whose fragrance rises to GOD." - Ephesians 4:30-5:2
(Do not sadden the Holy Spirit. It is easy to understand this expression if we think of the sadness we feel each time we reject a good idea, a desire to do better: sadness of the "Holy Spirit" who suggested it in the first place, sadness of our own spirit, for it knows what we have lost.
Here are a few elements of a new way to live, as was already shown in the previous verses.
To imitate GOD [Romans 5:6-11] who loves everyone, the good and the bad [Matthew 5:48]. In a more tangible way we have a model in CHRIST, the Son of GOD, who gave HIMSELF out of love for us, as the way, the light and life.)
